background: On July 10, 1938, Howard Hughes took off from Floyd Bennett Field in New York in a specially modified Lockheed 14 Super Electra, embarking on his record-breaking around-the-world flight. Determined to surpass Wiley Post’s 1933 record, Hughes carefully planned a route that spanned the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and back across the Pacific, emphasizing speed, precision, and efficiency. He meticulously managed fuel, navigation, and mechanical performance, pushing both himself and the aircraft to the limits of endurance. Over the course of the journey, Hughes and his crew faced challenging weather and logistical obstacles but maintained an aggressive pace, ultimately completing the circumnavigation in just under four days, setting a new world record and cementing his reputation as one of aviation’s most daring and innovative pioneers.
