background: Annette Vadim, born Annette Susanne Strøyberg on December 7, 1936, in Rynkeby, Denmark, was a Danish model-turned-actress who gained international attention through her marriage to French filmmaker Roger Vadim in 1958, adopting the name Annette Vadim professionally. She made her cinematic debut in Vadim’s 1959 adaptation of Les Liaisons dangereuses, playing the role of Marianne de Tourvel, and later starred in the 1960 French-Italian film Blood and Roses (Et mourir de plaisir), an erotic-horror feature that showcased her striking presence. Though she possessed the beauty and allure often compared to contemporaries like Brigitte Bardot, critics generally viewed her acting as less compelling, and her film career remained relatively brief, spanning primarily from 1959 to the mid-1960s. After her divorce from Vadim in 1961, she returned to her maiden name, Stroyberg, and continued to appear in smaller French and Italian productions. Over the years, she lived between Paris and Copenhagen, marrying several times and maintaining connections with prominent cultural figures, before passing away in Copenhagen on December 12, 2005, shortly after her 69th birthday.
