background: On May 24, 1980, the New York Islanders won their first Stanley Cup, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 6 of the Finals at Nassau Coliseum. The game became one of the most iconic in NHL history when Bob Nystrom scored the championship-winning goal at 7:11 of overtime, finishing a perfect pass from John Tonelli to seal a 5–4 victory. The win marked the beginning of the Islanders’ dynasty, as they would go on to capture four consecutive Stanley Cups (1980–1983), and Nystrom’s overtime goal remains one of the most celebrated moments in franchise history.
