1975 KISS concert tour ad (cancelled)...

Item # 720654

September 08, 1975

THE VILLAGE VOICE (weekly), Greenwich Village, New York, Sept. 8, 1975

* Early KISS - American hard rock band
* "Alive!" tour performance advertisement
* Ace Frehley - Gene Simmons - Paul Stanley
* Memorial Field at Mount Vernon (CANCELLED)

Page 141 has a 1/2 page advertisement for the upcoming "The Summer's End Festival" at Memorial Field with the headliner being KISS. This event was ultimately cancelled though. Still a very early ad for this iconic group.
AI notes: KISS was scheduled to perform at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, New York, on September 21, 1975, as part of the Summer’s End Festival organized by Concerts Promotion International (CPI). However, the show was ultimately canceled and no performance took place on that date. At this time, the band was in a transitional phase, having concluded their "Dressed to Kill" tour earlier in 1975 and preparing for the release of their landmark live album, Alive!, which had debuted on September 10, 1975. Although the Mount Vernon concert did not occur, KISS continued performing in nearby cities around the same period, including a show in Syracuse, New York, at the Onondaga County War Memorial Arena on the same day. This period marked the beginning of the Alive! tour, which would solidify their reputation as one of rock’s most theatrical and energetic live acts.
I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because their was really no reason to save it at the time.
The Village Voice was an American counterculture newspaper known for being the country's first alternative newsweekly. It introduced free-form, high-spirited, and passionate journalism into the public discourse - a tradition it maintained throughout its 60+ year history. It is quite common to find great political cartoons, satirical cartoons and articles, thought-provoking editorials, and ads and reviews for both concerts and theater productions - both on and off Broadway. Many iconic writers and musicians credit their appearance in The Village Voice for at least a portion of their success.
Complete with 144, tabloid-size, one crease across the center, very minor margin wear, nice condition.

Provenance note: This issue comes from The Village Voice's own archives, part of their in-house collection used to create their digital archive. Rare as such.
