Horrors of the Holocaust revealed...

Item # 717667

April 29, 1945

THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 29, 1945

* Jewish Holocaust atrocities revealed
* War in Germany & liberation of concentration camps
* Horrific photos shown for 1st time

Although the front page features a three line banner headline on the closing moments of the war in Europe, including: "...HITLER SAID TO BE DYING", the most noteworthy content is found on page 20. Here are found two sickening photos headed: "At Two of the Horror Camps Liberated By The Allies", one showing a communal grave of victims starved to death, and the other--a notable photo published around the world--captioned: "Slave laborers in their rough bunks in the Buchenwald concentration camp near Jena as they were found by United States troops."
There is a related article on the same page that explains in more detail what has been found in the concentration camps, headed: "Atrocity Report Issued By Army"  and subhead: "Buchenwald an 'Extermination Factory', SHAEF is Told by Official Inspectors." (see images)
This is one of the earliest reports to be found in American newspapers on the Holocaust, printed over a week before the end of war in Europe.
Complete 1st section only with all 40 pages, rag edition in great condition.
