Note: On December 13, 1947, the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer)—the world's first general-purpose electronic digital computer—was in operation at the U.S. Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory (BRL) at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
At Aberdeen, ENIAC's capabilities were expanded beyond military applications. It was used for various scientific computations, including numerical weather simulations and calculations related to the development of the hydrogen bomb .
Today, ENIAC is recognized as a pioneering achievement in computing history. A historical marker commemorating ENIAC's contributions is located near Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland .
