September 04, 1790

GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES, New York, Sept. 4, 1790 Almost the entire middle column on the front page is taken up with an Act of Congress, headed by a nice engraving of a heraldic eagle, and signed in type by George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. There is also a "Resolve" signed by all 3 as well.
The back page has an address from the clergy of Newport, R.I., to the president to which he responded with a letter signed: G. Washington, as well as an address from the "Freemen of the town of Newport" to which Washington responded with a letter signed: Geo. Washington.
Note the damage to the back leaf with a piece from an upper corner. This does not affect any of the four Washington items, but does affect the Newport letter to Washington. Four pages, lightly toned, otherwise good.
