Jefferson's annual message, with mention of Lewis & Clark...

Item # 702736

December 06, 1806

NEW YORK HERALD, Dec. 6, 1806

* President Thomas Jefferson
* State of the Union Address
* re. Lewis and Clark Expedition

Beginning on page 2 & concluding on page 3 is his lengthy address to the Senate & House of Representatives. This was his annual state-of-the-union address, prefaced with: "This day at 12 o'clock the President of the United States communicated, by Mr. Coles, his Secretary, the following MESSAGE to both houses of Congress."
Of significance is some fine mention of the Lewis and Clark expedition including: "...The expedition of Messrs. Lewis and Clarke [sic]...has all the success which could have been expected....it is but justice to say that Messrs. Lewis and Clark, and their brave companions, have, by this arduous service, deserved well of their country."  There is a second reference to these two explorers as well.
The address is signed by the President at its conclusion: Th. Jefferson.
Four pages, irregular at the bottom portion of the right margin, some foxing at folds & margin, good condition.
