Item # 701934

July 16, 1862

THE DAILY TRUE DELTA, New Orleans, July 16, 1862

* Union occupation publication
* Rare from the deep South

 Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight. Consequently this is a "union occupation" newspaper.
Among the reports are: "How About the Shinplasters?" "From Key West" "Gen. Hunter & his Black Soldiers" "The Conscription Act in Georgia" "Aggressive Policy of the South" "The Battle of James River" and more.
Four pages, minor wear.
