George S. Patton takes over the Third Army...

Item # 697836

August 15, 1944

FITCHBURG SENTINEL, Mass., August 15, 1944

* General George S. Patton takes command
* United States Third Army
* Pre Battle of the Bulge

* Operation Dragoon (1st report)
* Southern France invasion

The top of the front page has nice banner headline: "SOUTHERN FRANCE INVADED BY GREAT ALLIED FORCES" with subheads and related map. (see images) First report coverage on "Operation Dragoon" in Southern France.
But even more historic is a one column heading near the bottom of the front page: "Patton Leading 3d Army Drive Against Nazis" with photo of Patton. This was when it was announced that Patton had taken command of the Third Army a few months prior to the Battle of the Bulge.
Complete with 12 pages, light toning at the margins, irregular along the spine, otherwise nice.
