On the Louisiana Purchase...

Item # 684521

November 24, 1803

BOSTON GAZETTE, Nov. 24, 1803

* On the Louisiana Purchase Treaty

The middle of the front page has over a full column taken up with: "LOUISIANA" which is a very lengthy editorial concerning the purchase, recently concluded.
It begins: "The treaty places the U.S. in the best possible position to avoid the usual causes of war; we have no neighbour settled near our settlements; but it may be said, that Spain may be disposed to quarrel with us to regain the ceded province or may sell some of her territory to a power who may wish to conquer our new territory..." with much more.
Four pages, very nice condition.
