June 29, 1914

THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL, Memphis, Tennessee, June 29, 1914  The last column on the front page reports the event that would be the catalyst which began World War I, also known as The Great War. The column heads include: "AUSTRIAN HEIR & MORGANATIC WIFE ARE ASSASSINATED" "Student Shoots them After Bomb Thrown Unsuccessfully" "Two Conspirators Seized" "Tragedy Enacted in Sarajevo, Capital of Bosnia" with more (see). The text takes the full column and carries over to take over half of page 2 as well.
Although the implications were not understood at the time, this would be the beginning of World War I.
Complete in 12 pages, loose at the spine, much chipping at two of the margins but fortunately only effecting about 4 words in the noted article. Two tape mends to pg. 1 also but causing no loss  of readability.
