ARMY & NAVY JOURNAL, New York, October 29, 1864 As noted in the masthead this was the: "Gazette of The Regular & Volunteer Forces" and as such is replete with military news of all sorts.
The entire front page is taken up with: "The Campaign In The Shenandoah" with a subhead of: "Battle of Cedar Creek", the report carrying over to take all of pg. 2. Other articles within include: "The Care & Discipline of Troops" "Curiosities in Artillery" "The Insignia of Rank" "Army & Navy Personal" a more detailed account of: "The Battle of Cedar Creek" and much on: "The Army of The James" and much more. There is: "A Proclamation" "Thanksgiving For Mercies" which is signed in type by the President: Abraham Lincoln (see). Also over a full page: "The Army of the James - Congratulatory Order" signed by: Major-General Butler.
