Page 3 has a significant letter from George Washington, prefaced with a note signed by the President: John Adams, concerning: "...this great event, the General's acceptance of his appointment as Lieutenant General and Commander in Chief of the Army." The letter takes most of a column, is datelined "Mount Vernon, 13th July, 1798" and is signed in type: George Washington (see photos).
Another items on pg. 3 is headed: "Equality ! Liberty ! Fraternity!" and is signed in type by: Thos. Paine, beginning: "The great nation of France being about to have war with the United States of America..." (see photos).
Four pages, a little foxing, a few discrete archival mends, nice condition.
