January 30, 1769

THE BOSTON GAZETTE & COUNTRY JOURNAL, Jan. 30, 1769  Certainly one of the most successful--and famous--newspapers of the colonial era. The masthead features an engraving showing the Liberty figure overlooking the skyline of Boston, a theme which just a year later would be used by Paul Revere when he created the engraving for this newspaper.
Most of page 2 is taken up with a letter concerning the state of affairs in the Boston vicinity. One paragraph notes in part: "...As to the repeal of the stamp act, tho' the people of this province & American universally regarded this act as an infraction of their constitutional rights & consequently humbly claim'd the repeal as a point of equity...They felt themselves happy till new acts, equally unconstitutional were made, & severities impos'd upon trade unknown even at the time of the stamp act..." with much more (see for portions).
The back page includes an illustrate ad for a ship which mentions: "...lying at Hancock's Wharff, will sail in three weeks...for freight or passage apply to the master on board, or to John Hancock, Esq., at his store." (see)
Four pages, minor wear at the edges, generally in nice condition.
