Stephen A. Douglas' Children...

The front page of this 8 page issue contains various one column headlines concerning the Civil War, including "The Great Rebellion", "Retreat of
Rebels to Arkansas", and more. The most interesting item is a report on "Senator Douglas' Children", which describes them as residing in the north, provides additional background, and also comments of his deceased wife, Mrs. Martin".  The coverage mentions the need for them to go to the estate in North Carolina to protect it.  Very interesting front page report.  There is more war reporting on the inside  as well, in addition to other news of the day and a wealth of ads. Not the least bit browned or fragile as high quality, cloth-based newsprint was used at this time.
