HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, August 8, 1863 Certainly one of the more desired issues of the Civil War with the nice content on the Battle of Gettysburg. The front page has 2 prints: "Saluting the Old Flag at Port Hudson" and "The Formal Surrender of Port Hudson". Inside a 1/4 pg: "Siege of Vicksburg--Huts on the Hill-side"; a full page has two prints: "Port Hudson From the Opposite Bank of the River" and "The Union Forces Entering the Breast-Works to Take Possession of Port Hudson".
The premier print is the doublepage centerfold: "The Battle of Gettysburg--Longstreet's Attack Upon Our Left Centre--Bull Ridge in the Distance", a very dramatic scene, plus another full page with 2 scenes of the Battle of Gettysburg: "...Attack of the Louisiana Tigers at the Battle of Gettysburg" and "...General Crawford's Charge on the Rebel Lines". Yet another full page has 2 prints: "The Army of the Potomac--Execution of Three Deserters" & "The Attack on Fort Wagner--The Stormers Advancing Under Fire."
Other prints include: "Abraham, Who Was Blow'd 'Free' Mile in de Air" and "The Opening of the Mississippi--Arrival of the Steamer 'Imperial' at New Orleans From St. Louis." and a small map: "The Harbor of Charleston, Showing the Scene of General Gilmore's Operations on Morris Island."
There is nice text titled: "The Battle of Gettysburg" as well as an article: "Vicksburg" among others. The back page has a cartoon: "Public Opinion". Complete in 16 pages.
