THE SCOTS MAGAZINE, Edinburgh, Scotland, July, 1766 Although formatted much like the more common "Gentleman's Magazine" this is a much more scarce title. Inside has great content from Parliament headed: "First Protest on the American Stamp Bill" being arguments against appeal the Act. This is followed by close to 3 pages of the: "Second Protest on the American Stamp Bill". Interesting content providing an insight as to how controversial the Stamp Act was even in England.
Further on is: "The Speech of Francis Bernard, Gov. & Admiral of Massachusetts Bay..." to his Assembly, with a response to him, all this taking over 2 pages. Also: "British North America" news with fishing concerns, an item from Boston: "...to the inexpressible joy of all, were received...the important news of the repeal of the stamp act which was signed by his Majesty the 18th of March...the bells in the town were set a-ringing, the ships in the harbour displayed their colours, guns were discharged..." and more. Other items concerning news of the Stamp- Act repeal, plus more.
Complete in 56 pages, 5 by 8 inches, disbound with title & "Contents" on the front page, great condition.
