WILKES' SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, June 7, 1862
* Pre Civil War baseball reporting
This newspaper, which was primarily a sporting newspaper, has a quite lengthy article headed: "Billiards" with an accompanying subtitle reading: "The Billiard Players of America". Additionally, another article: "Our Chess Department" includes a "problem of the week" and the answer to the previous weeks' problem.
One article headed: "Baseball" includes a box score from a game between Star and Powhatan with text as well (see). Somewhat rare to find baseball reports from during the Civil War.
This 16 page issue also includes some Civil War reports as well as other sports items (including Cricket and Boxing). Nice.
