background: On January 25, 1932, the reigning "Golden Greek" Jim Londos solidified his status as the era’s premier box-office attraction by defeating Sammy Stein at a packed Madison Square Garden. In a contest that lasted roughly 31 minutes, Londos successfully defended his world heavyweight title before a crowd of 15,000 fans, ultimately winning by count out after a grueling physical exchange. Stein, a former football standout known for his raw power, proved to be a formidable adversary, but he could not overcome the technical mastery and legendary agility that made Londos a cultural icon. This victory was emblematic of the "Londos Era," where the champion’s immense popularity served as a rare economic bright spot during the Great Depression, consistently drawing massive ethnic audiences to witness his signature grappling style and undeniable charisma.
