background: Ted Bundy was arrested for the last time in the early morning hours of February 15, 1978, in Pensacola, after a Pensacola police officer, David Lee, noticed him driving suspiciously in a stolen orange Volkswagen Beetle and attempted a traffic stop; Bundy initially tried to evade the officer, then pulled over and violently resisted arrest, kicking and fighting before being subdued and handcuffed. At the time, Bundy was a fugitive who had escaped from jail in Glenwood Springs and later from Aspen, and had recently carried out the brutal January 15, 1978 attacks at the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where two women were murdered and several others assaulted, as well as the abduction and murder of 12-year-old Kimberly Leach in Lake City; this arrest ended his final killing spree and ultimately led to his conviction and death sentence in Florida.
