background: Karl Wallenda, the legendary high-wire artist and founder of The Flying Wallendas, died on March 22, 1978, at the age of 73, in a tragic accident in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was attempting a daring high-wire walk between two hotels without a safety net, a hallmark of his fearless career. During the stunt, strong gusts of wind caused him to lose his balance, and he fell approximately eight stories to his death. Wallenda had spent decades performing death-defying feats around the world, often without safety equipment, and his death marked the first time a Wallenda was killed during a performance. Despite the tragedy, his legacy endured through his family, many of whom continue the high-wire tradition today.
