AI notes: Larry Kelley, the 1936 Heisman Trophy winner, was raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he attended Williamsport High School and first emerged as a gifted all-around athlete known for his size, speed, and leadership. His strong play there earned him admission to Yale, where he became a star end in the single-wing system, excelling as a receiver, blocker, defender, and inspirational team figure. In 1936 he helped lead Yale to a 7–1 season, delivered several defining clutch performances, and was unanimously selected an All-American, achievements that made him only the second recipient of the Heisman Trophy and the last Yale player ever to win it. Kelley's combination of small-town Pennsylvania roots, Ivy League success, and national acclaim made him one of the most celebrated college football personalities of his era.
