THE POST-BOY, London, Sept. 7, 1727
* Nice masthead engravings
* Early 18th century original
One of my favorite 18th century newspapers with the two nice engravings in the masthead, plus the very decorative first letter in the text (see). Various European reports.
Single sheet, measures about 8 1/2 by 14 1/8 inches, nice displayable condition.
AI notes: The Post-Boy played a role in the early development of British journalism. By the 1720s, there were twelve London newspapers and 24 provincial papers, indicating a growing public interest in news and information. The newspaper's brief publication period reflects the challenges faced by early newspapers in establishing a sustainable model. Original issues of The Post-Boy are highly valued by collectors and historians. Examples from 1710–1722 are available for purchase depending on condition and rarity. These issues are prized for their historical value and the ornate masthead engravings.
