AI notes: Richard Loeb, one half of the infamous "Leopold and Loeb" duo who murdered 14-year-old Bobby Franks in 1924 in a highly publicized case, was killed in prison on January 28, 1936. While serving a life sentence at Illinois State Prison in Joliet, Loeb was attacked by a fellow inmate, James Day, with a straight razor in a shower room. Day claimed self-defense, alleging Loeb had made sexual advances. The incident shocked the public, and Day was later acquitted of murder. Loeb died from over 50 wounds, while his partner Nathan Leopold remained in prison until his parole in 1958.
