February 15, 1777

THE LONDON EVENING POST, England, Feb. 15, 1777  The ftpg. has: "There is no kind of authority for the report of General Lee's having been taken a prisoner...story itself is altogether improbable..." and also: "...When Capt. Wallis left Rhode Island all...operations against Providence were laid aside as impracticable, General Putnam being at Providence with an army of 8000 men..." and: "...that on Jan. 8, in the night, a detachment of the Provincial army came and attacked the camp of the King's troops..." with more.
Page 3 has: "The loss of the Hessian corps happened by a stratagem of 500 Provincials being dressed in British regimental taken in a ship; the corps drew up in the rear of the Hessians, who supposing themselves supported, marched on to attack a body in front till they got into ambuscade & then were attacked on all sides."
The bkpg. has: "A Bill to Empower his Majesty to Secure and Detail Persons charged with, or  suspected of the Crime of High Treason committed in North America, or on the High Seas, or the crime of Piracy" which takes over a full column.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, red tax stamp on page 3, good condition.
