Item # 717571
November 07, 1776
THE LONDON EVENING POST, England, Nov. 7, 1776 Near the middle of the front page is a terrific "Deceleration" from Richard Viscount Howe, and his brother General William Howe, commissioners attempting to restore peace in the American colonies.
This Declaration is in response to the recent Declaration of Independence, with bits noting: "Although the Congress, who the misguided Americans suffer to direct their opposition to a reestablishment of the constitutional government...have disavowed every purpose of reconciliation not consonant with their extravagant...claim of independency, the King's Commissioners think fit to declare...inhabitants at large to reflect seriously on their present condition & to judge for themselves whether it be more consistent with their honour & happiness to offer up their lives as a sacrifice to the unjust & precarious cause in which they are engaged, or return to their allegiance...", dated at New York, Sept. 19, 1776 and signed in type by both Howes.
More ftpg. content including mention of the fire in New York.
More American content inside as seen in the photos, with mention of the American abandoning New York and spiking heavy cannon before they left.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, red tax stamp on page 3, nice condition.
Note: Newspapers dated in 1776 are increasingly difficult to find, making them desirable for both historians and collectors.
