background: On May 17, 1987, the Winston All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway featured one of NASCAR’s most iconic moments when Dale Earnhardt won the race after a dramatic on-track battle with Bill Elliott. During the intense duel, Earnhardt veered through the grass on the front stretch to maintain his lead in what became known as the legendary "Pass in the Grass," despite not actually passing anyone. The race showcased Earnhardt's aggressive style and cemented his reputation as "The Intimidator," making the 1987 Winston one of the most memorable events in NASCAR history.
