Commodore Phillips and his "First Fleet" about to sail for Botany Bay...

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, May 10, 1787 The front page begins with a report from the House of Lords headed: "American Debt Bill" noting: "...that a great number of Loyalists who had taken refuge in this country & were in effect outlawed in America, where they could not bring actions for the recovery of their debts...were...harassed with actions...for debts owing in America..." with more (see).
But the best & most historic report is inside from a letter dated May 8 from Portsmouth noting: "Yesterday evening came here Commodore Phillips, and immediately went on board the Sirius to take command. It is said his fleet for Botany Bay will sail on Sunday next." This is a great report of the sailing date of the historic "First Fleet" of ships under the command of Commodore Phillips, which ultimately left on May 13, five days after the date of the mentioned letter. A website includes the names of the 11 ships in the First Fleet, which includes the mentioned Sirius.
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed, 9 by 12 inches, very nice condition.
