Item # 716155
November 19, 1888
(Sold - No longer available for sale) THE TIMES, London, England, Nov. 19, 1888 "Jack the Ripper" reports were common in the latter half of 1888, capturing the interest of people on both sides of the Atlantic as evidenced by the reports in many newspapers in the United States. It was the international "sensation" of the era, and a case which was never conclusively solved.
Not surprisingly, issues of the respected "Times" newspaper from London are the most sought after, being the primary source for Jack the Ripper reports. the murders happened in the Whitechapel section of London Page 6 has a relatively short report, headed: "The Whitechapel Murders" which notes: "...a man who had just arrived from Birmingham & who described himself as a doctor. Upon being questioned the suspect made certain statements as to his whereabouts at the times of the murders which the police are now investigating. the man was subsequently released. The funeral of the murdered woman Kelly will take place to-day, when her remain will be buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery...".
Sixteen pages and in uncommonly, nice, clean condition. Not the least bit pulpish as would normally be the case, as this issue was apparently stored in a well-controlled environment for the last 100+ years.
