Note: Captain Derrick Sington, commander of the British Army's 14 Amplifier Unit, was among the first to enter Bergen-Belsen concentration camp upon its liberation in 1945. His unit used loudspeakers to communicate with the prisoners, informing them that immediate release wasn't possible due to widespread disease, while promising medical aid and food. Sington and his team stayed for two weeks, helping identify collaborators, distribute food, and evacuate survivors. He later documented the horrific conditions and psychological toll in his 1946 book Belsen Uncovered, which remains a vital firsthand account of the camp’s liberation and aftermath.
