Note: On August 10, 1934, Babe Ruth announced his plans to retire from Major League Baseball at the end of the season. At 39, his performance had declined, and his once-dominant presence on the field was fading. Despite his hopes of becoming a manager, the Yankees showed no interest in offering him that role. The 1934 season would be his last with the Yankees, and although he briefly played for the Boston Braves in 1935, Ruth officially retired that June, marking the end of one of baseball’s most iconic careers.
