A one-of-a-kind protype edition... a Soviet-American newspaper...
Item # 714726
July 04, 1990
WE/Mbi "The First Independent Soviet-American Newspaper", July 4, 1990
* The prototype issue - a true "one-of-a-kind"
* We know of only one other "regular" issue published.
This is a very curious newspaper which we have only seen one other "regular" issue published beyond this initial pilot "prototype" edition. It was an outgrowth of the era of the thawing of relations between the United States & the Soviet Union and just before the collapse of the latter. A box on the ftpg: "Who We Are" notes in part: "WE/Mbl is the first independent English-Russian language newspaper. It is a product of a team effort by editors for the Hearst Corp. & Izvestia. Russian & English versions of the paper will contain the same stores & features & be mirror images of each other...Our goal is to inform, stimulate & entertain. The editors of WI/Mbl hope the response to this pilot issue will lead to regular weekly publications in English & Russian early in 1991." (see). I am not aware that this newspaper ever published again.
Complete in 16 pages, very nice condition.
