Latest reports on the Revolutionary War...

Item # 713622

May 01, 1778

THE TOWN & COUNTRY MAGAZINE, London, May, 1778  Some interesting discussions in Parliament concerning the American situation including: "...assert that the Colonists were perfectly contented at that period; they had begun to exhibit some marks of discontent. He might compare America, at that time, to a generous steed, who had become a little restive, but might by the experienced manege of a good horseman be easily brought to a gentle obedience; but when whipped, spurred, and harassed, by a giddy, wanton rider, became insolent of control and disdained the reins...".
There are 2 1/2 pages taken up with the continued report: "Rise & Progress of the Present Unhappy War in America" with much detail on events of the war. Another item mentions that: "Governor Penn, of Pennsylvania...was afterwards admitted on his parole, has since been liberated & is now on his passage to England." and a bit noting: "...stationed 3 large ships of war & 5 frigates to lay directly off Boston harbour by which means it is impossible for any vessel to come in or out of that port without falling a victim to the British flag...".
Another page is half taken up with reports headed: "America" including one datelined at Philadelphia: "Gen. Washington is still at Valley Forge, very strong, & his army daily reinforcing...General Howe's army has orders to be ready at a minute's warning for some enterprise on the 5th...".
Both full page plates called for are present.
