California capital punishment abolished in 1972...

Item # 713434

February 19, 1972

THE RALEIGH TIMES, N.C. Feb. 19, 1972

* Capital punishment - death row executions banned
* California Supreme Court decision (1st report)
* Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan mention

The top of page 4-B has a 4 column heading: "107 Men, Women Spared" (see images) Mention of a few notable death row inmates that benefited by this decision that includes cult killings mastermind Charles Manson.
I suspect this to be a very rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time.
Complete with 20+ pages, a few binding holes along the spine, good condition.

Note: In February 1972, the California Supreme Court found that the death penalty constituted cruel and unusual punishment under the California state constitution and 107 condemned inmates were resentenced to life with the possibility of parole and removed from California's death row.
