The front page has an article: "Mauch Chunck, Pa", now known as the town of Jim Thorpe. This article notes in part: "...which has arisen as it were by magic, is in the vicinity of the celebrated coal mines, and contains nearly 1000 inhabitants..." with more descriptive text.
This article was written just ten years after its founding, and is--by far--the earliest article we have found of Mauch Cbunk in a newspaper.
Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, very nice condition.
As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
