* Already an Olympic silver medalist
*Competes in regional high school championships
Page 11 has: "CAMPBELL CAPTURES TWO NEWARK EVENTS", followed by a few paragraphs of text which includes in part: "Milt Campbell, Plainfield High School star, won the first of two events in the twenty-ninth Newark Athletic Club track and field championships today. Campbell, who finished second in the Olympic decathlon event last summer, won the shot-put and high jump", with more. The article goes on to mention that Milt was to compete in additional events the following day, but that he had to pull out of the events due to his participation in another competition at Madison Square Garden being held at the same time.
Nice to have this report in the closest big-city newspaper to this event, and to have coverage of this amazing athlete from when he was still in high school. In just 3 years he would become the 1st black man to win an Olympic Gold medal in the decathlon.
