From Confederate New Orleans...

Item # 712622

January 26, 1862

SUNDAY DELTA, New Orleans, Louisiana, Jan. 26, 1862   Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city which surrendered without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
Front page items include: "What the Morning Journals Say" "Letter from Baton Rouge" "General Beauregard & South Carolina" includes a letter signed by him in type: G. T. Beauregard; "A Vain Trip to the Yankee Ship Massachusetts" and more. There are more war-related reports on pages 2 & 3 including: "Crittenden's Rally at Monticello Confirmed", "Burnside Fleet Believed to be Lost" & "Gen. Zollicoffer" among others.
Page 3 has a small illustrated ad headed: "Negroes Just Arrived"  and one on the back pg: "Negroes For Sale". The back page includes 17 illustrated ship ads.
