Ohio State sprinter breaks World record in 1929...

Item # 712014

June 09, 1929

SECTION TWO (sports) of the Chicago Sunday Tribune, June 9, 1929

* Ohio State Buckeyes sprinter George Simpson
* Breaks World record for 100-yard dash (9.4 seconds)
* 1929 NCAA Track and Field Championships

The front page of this section has a nice banner headline: "SIMPSON SETS WORLD MARK FOR 100 YARDS" with subhead and photo. (see images) Nice for display. Another related photo on page 3. Nice to have from the city where it took place (Stagg Field, University of Chicago). Very rare as such.
Complete section 2 (sports) only with 14 pages, rag edition in nice condition.

Note: On June 8, George Simpson won the 100 in 9.4 seconds, bettering the world record of 9.5 set less than a month earlier by Eddie Tolan of Michigan at the Big Ten meet. The newspaper headlines of the day, especially in Ohio, treated Simpson's record as something akin to the greatest achievement in U.S. history.
