John Dean implicates Richard Nixon in 1973...

Item # 710741

June 26, 1973

THE NEW YORK TIMES, June 26, 1973

* United States Senate Watergate Scandal Committee
* First day of testimony - White House Counsel John Dean
* 1st person to implicate President Richard Nixon

The front page has a nice banner headline: "DEAN TELLS INQUIRY THAT NIXON TOOK PART IN WATERGATE COVER-UP FOR EIGHT MONTHS; HE ALSO NAMES HALDEMAN AND EHRICHMAN" with subheads and 2 related photos. (see images) Nice for display and to have in this famous NYC publication. Much, much more inside this issue with loads of text. Too much to photograph all.
I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because their was really no reason to save it at the time. The newspaper that reports Nixon's resignation the following year is the issue that some people kept.
Complete with 80 pages, a little light foxing, generally very nice.

wikipedia notes: On June 25, 1973, Dean began his testimony before the Senate Watergate Committee. The committee had voted to grant him use immunity (doing so in a divided vote in a private session that was then changed to a unanimous vote and announced that way to the public). In his testimony, he implicated administration officials, including Mitchell, Nixon, and himself. His testimony attracted very high television ratings since he was breaking new ground in the investigation, and media attention grew apace, with more detailed newspaper coverage. Dean was the first administration official to accuse Nixon of direct involvement with Watergate and the resulting cover-up in press interviews.
