Washington to Gage on the treatment of prisoners...
Item # 709833
September 01, 1775
TOWN & COUNTRY MAGAZINE, London, September, 1775 Near the back are various items concerning America with one report from London beginning: "American affairs still engross the chief attention of the public. General Gage does not appear inclined to come to another action..." with more. Another item begins: "Letters from Virginia mention that Lord Dunmore nearly escaped assassination..." with just a bit more, relating to the Gunpowder Incident.
Another page has a letter from General Gage to the Earl of Dartmouth concerning a letter from George Washington. This is followed by the letter from Washington to Gage concerning the treatment of prisoners, then followed by Gage's response. The letters are signed in type: G. Washington, and Thomas Gage respectively.
There is then more than a full page of war-related reports from America, too much to note here but can be seen in the photos.
Among other articles are: "Sketch of the Native Americans" "False Notions Concerning America" & "Capt. Cook's
Discoveries--Voyage Round the World".
Two of the 3 full page plates called for are present.
Formatted very much like the 'Gentleman's Magazine' but a much more scarce title. Complete in 56 pages, full title/contents page, 5 by 8 1/4 inches, great condition.
