Item # 707479

February 17, 1905

THE COMMONER, Lincoln, Nebraska, Feb. 17, 1905  As noted just under the title: "William J. Bryan, Editor & Proprietor". Bryan was an unsuccessful Democratic Presidential nominee in 1896, 1900 and 1908. He was a strong supporter of Prohibition in the 1920s, and energetically attacked Darwinism and evolution, most famously at the Scopes Trial in 1925. Five days after winning the case but getting bad press, he died in his sleep.
A great wealth of political reporting plus non-political content as well. The front page features a political cartoon.
Sixteen pages, 11 by 14 3/4 inches, never bound nor trimmed, minimal margin wear & some tears at the margins, good condition.

Item from last month's catalog - #364 - released for March, 2026.
