Item # 707252

December 02, 1971

THE VILLAGE VOICE (weekly), Greenwich Village, New York, Dec. 2, 1971

* Shirley Chisholm runs for President of the U.S.
* Announces her decision to become 1st black woman to run for Democratic Party's nomination
* Bob Dylan-themed ad and letter
* Yoko Ono - "One Woman Show"

This issue has considerable noteworthy content. The most historic by far is the multi-page article on Shirley Chisholm in which she, among other things, announces that she plans to enter the Democratic Party's field of candidates making her the first black female to ever do so. This early "announcement" was a Village Voice exclusive
Additional items include: "Belfast at War", an ad for Yoko Ono's "One Woman Show" at the Museum of Modern Art, ads for multiple concerts and new albums (Poco, Bob Dylan, James Cotton, Humble Pie, Richie Havens, Rita Coolidge, Sly and the Family Stone, etc.), a plea for A. J. Weberman to make a public apology to Bob Dylan, and more.
All of the other icon elements of The Village Voice are present as well.
Complete in 104 pages, even toning, a few small margin tears, but overall good. See images for details.

Provenance note: This issue comes from The Village Voice's own archives, part of their in-house collection used to create their digital archive. Rare as such.

Alert: Many issues of The Village Voice contain articles and/or photos which some consider offensive, and are certainly inappropriate for children. Please purchase with discretion.
