The "historic" midterm elections of 1998 - Gray Davis & Barbara Boxer breeze...

Item # 706136

November 04, 1998

SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, California, Nov. 4, 1998

* Historic midterm election
* 1st in over half-a-century where incumbent picks up seats

The front-page, full-banner heading reads: "Demos romp", with subheads: "Davis, Boxer breeze" and "GOP Loses Ground, Keeps Control In House, Senate". Most pages in this section are focused on the elections. See images for details.
Note: While the Republicans maintained control of the House and the Senate, this was the first time since 1934 when the party of the sitting president (Bill Clinton) picked up seats in either the House or Senate. What made this even more surprising was the abundance of bad-press the Democratic Party was fielding due to the Lewinski-Clinton scandal... which included ongoing impeachment proceedings.
Included is the first section only (18 pages) and is in very good condition. See images for details
