Item # 701823
November 22, 1963
THE AUSTIN STATESMAN, Texas, Nov. 22, 1963
* The visit that never happened
* John F. Kennedy - JFK
This is the city where President Kennedy was to be later on November 22 following his talk at the Dallas Trade Mart.
This is the 2nd section of the newspaper as it begins with page 27, yet has its own masthead. The news reads as if all is well, with 3 photos of John F. Kennedy. It reports on the plans for JFK's arrival in Austin and his itinerary there.
In reality, Kennedy had already been shot, but the newspaper made a note in the first section (not present), an apology of sorts: "Had Gone To Press" "Page 27 of The Austin Statesman Friday had gone to press just minutes before the tragic news came from Dallas Friday afternoon. The page is still being carried in this issue in order for the entire edit to reach our readers as soon as possible."
This notice is included in photocopy.
Present are pages 27 through 36, very nice condition.
