AI notes: The York Chronicle was a prominent weekly newspaper published in York, England, first launched in 1772 as The York Chronicle and Weekly Advertiser by Christopher Etherington. After Etherington's bankruptcy in 1777, it was taken over by William Blanchard and renamed The York Chronicle and General Advertiser. The paper played a significant role in the city's print media landscape through the late 18th and early 19th centuries, eventually becoming The York Chronicle and Northern Standard by 1836. It was absorbed by the Yorkshire Gazette in 1839, marking the end of its independent publication.
