'Bleeding Kansas' in Congress...

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., May 14, 1856 Page 2 & 3 have reports from Congress during which the situation in Kansas achieved some attention. One report notes: "The Senate then proceeded to the consideration of the special order, being the bill to authorize the people of Kansas to form a constitution and state government preparatory to their admission into the Union when they have the requisite population...". Another report from Congress has a more extensive debate on Kansas taking most of a column, portions shown in the photos.
"Bleeding Kansas describes the period of repeated outbreaks of violent guerrilla warfare between pro-slavery and anti-slavery forces following the creation of the new territory of Kansas in 1854. In all, some 56 people were killed between 1855 and 1859.
Four pages, large folio size, irregular at the spine with binding indents, otherwise good condition. The folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
