January 04, 1817

THE NATIONAL REGISTER, Washington, Jan. 4, 1817  The back page has an article from Verasay, Indiana headed: "Indian Purchase" concerning: "...that the commissioners will succeed in making a purchase of the Delaware Indians of all their lands within this state, the consent of the Miami's and Pottowatomies having been obtained...".
Also: "The Slave Trade" notes in part: "...legislature of South Carolina is about to give a death blow to the inhuman and unprincipled traffic of Negro speculators. A bill has passed...to prohibit the introduction of slaves into that state without special permission from the legislature..." with more.
An uncommon title that existed from March 2, 1816 thru Dec. 7, 1820. As the photos show the format was very much like the more popular 'Niles Weekly Register' which began in 1811, but not remotely as successful.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, scattered foxing, good condition.
