September 23, 1923
CHICAGO SUNDAY TRIBUNE, September 23, 1923
* United States Amateur championship
* Golfer Maxwell Marston wins
* Flossmoor Country Club - Illinois
* New York Yankees team photo - Babe Ruth
The front page has a great banner headline: "MARSTON WINS GOLF TITLE" with subheads. (see images) Nice for display. Unusual for such a nice headline on the front page concerning such a event, probably because Flossmoor is close to Chicago. Lengthy first report coverage continues in the sport's section. Also a four column photo showing the 1923 pennant winning New York Yankees baseball team which shows Babe Ruth.
Complete with 40+ pages, light toning and some wear at the margins, generally good.
wikipedia notes: In the 1923 U.S. Amateur at Flossmoor Country Club, Marston defeated three former or future Amateur champions: Bobby Jones (1924, 1925, 1927, 1928, 1930), Francis Ouimet (1931), and Jess Sweetser (1922) in the final (38th hole).
