AI notes: The Prohibition Era was a newspaper published in Princeton, Indiana, from approximately 1887 to 1893, founded by Sumner Rose and later owned by James McCormick. This publication was aligned with the Prohibition Party, advocating for temperance and the prohibition of alcohol during a time when such movements were gaining momentum across the United States. Despite its political significance, surviving copies of the Prohibition Era are extremely rare or possibly lost, with no known archives currently holding physical issues. Historical records from Gibson County and the Princeton Public Library mention the paper only briefly, and attempts to locate copies at the county recorder’s office have been unsuccessful. The paper’s existence is primarily documented through secondary sources and genealogical references, making it a valuable yet elusive piece of Indiana’s temperance history.
